Lebanon

In the Valley where adonis fell in love there is a cave and in it I felt you waiting patiently in your home in the mountains singing songs of omitting. The water moved down the rocks into the pool at your feet and you flowed with it down to the valley. It is a narrow place that breathes longways through the cliffs, and it tells you that all things fall down and then come back together again.

In the Mountain there was a rock with a point on one end and it fell onto the roots of an old tree that were let to see the sun for the first time in many years. The roots moved downwards and sideways and upwards and were coming out of an old wall that also had not seen the sun for many years. We felt happy that we uncovered something that deserved to be remembered.

In the Forest something lives and moves and breathes on the top of the highest mountain where the trees grow strong without thinking. You know its true because the air feels cool and it comes to you in the form of a bird that you know was once a great man. He brings with him the sweet song that you always sing.

On the Plain a mound rises gently, the closest thing to the sky. It says that it was and is great and will always be because the people will always gather there.

In the Sea I saw you swimming trying to remember sunlight with your eyes closed. I once kept sunlight in my skin.

Untitled

the jinns are always waiting for our fears
the gods are always waiting for our love
and we are always here
not moving up nor down

summits are a beginning
so climb again
and again and again

water was here before the earth was formed
so swim again
and again and again

know the earth and sky
but never chose between them
remain in flux
always want

Namesake

Vision

at noon
when the sun is hottest
you will feel a sting
and know you’ve lost something

at dusk
when the house is empty
you will step on a crow
and run

in the desert
you will cross your arms
stare at the sky in defense
and know i am gone

you will be empty
and remember when you were full
you will cry from your stomach
and hate the hero

Desert

I.
i asked the desert what i wanted
and it gave me wind that was dark and quiet

i asked the sky what love was
and it put your fingers in my mouth

i asked the stars if you had released me
and they spoke silently

i felt empty space
around me and in me

II.
push your face into the ground
the sand is still warm in the night

stay close to the earth
rise only to see morning

god lives in the center of the sky
stand up and meet him

his will is only a wish
for you to know yourself
